Cravings Bistro - 4.7

We’re doing something a little different today.
Im currently studying PR at BYU. For one of my classes we had to write a feature story about somewhere that we had never been. Naturally, I chose a restaurant. Below is the article I wrote on Cravings Bistro. Enjoy!

Cravings Bistro Will Melt Your Heart

Pleasant Grove, UT – The buttery crust gives way as your teeth sink into confidently cheddar, cheddar cheese.  Your taste buds, lost in momentary bliss, hesitate at the presence of tart apples but quickly welcome their exotic friend.  Your shoulders sink, your body relaxes.  The flavors swell within you as you take a deep breath.  Wait!  Who’s there?  You sense an earthy sweetness, one that you’ve felt before.  Ah ha—candied brown sugar bacon.  It’s warm presence swirls past your tongue, triggering a small grin.  You let out a deep, “Ohh!” as your eyelids flutter in satisfaction.  You pause to relish.
Suddenly, your mind catches reality and you hear the voices of patient parents calmly chastising their anxious children.  You glance up confused, as if you had forgotten where you were.  The room is enjoyably spacious, scattered with many family-sized black tables and mismatched red chairs.  Tangible rays of September sun are pouring into the windows. Little-boy-blue walls counter a dark ceiling and elegant, cottage-like chandeliers. The whole décor offers the attitude of “childhood meets adulthood,” you’re thankful they skipped the awkward teen years. It’s then that you note wafts of cheese and butter teasing the air, drawing your attention back to what really matters. You take another bite and the buttery crust gives way as your teeth sink into confidently cheddar, cheddar cheese.
Cravings Bistro in Pleasant Grove, and previously American Fork, is pioneering “Gourmet Grilled Cheeses for Grown-Ups” for a Utah audience. They began gracing the public with their sandwiches three years ago, and owner/chef Angie Wilson says, “It’s been uphill ever since.” Angie and her twin sister Alisha started out selling cupcakes from their home. However, Angie quickly realized that: first, she didn’t want to work from home; and second, she hated baking. With her sister’s encouragement, Angie left the cupcake business to try a new market: grilled cheese.  Angie explained that in the restaurant industry customers always asked for grilled cheese, an item found exclusively on the kids menu. “Well, I’ll just do it,” Angie decided, “Like, gourmet grilled cheeses.”
Sisters and long time PG locals, Ella Lung and Daisy Powell, met up at Cravings to catch up over some lunch. Lung is a Cravings regular but this was Powell’s first visit. “I think it’s amazing,” Powell said when asked if she liked her sandwich, “Oh yeah, I’m never going to be able to look at grilled cheese the same.”
Cravings Bistro also recently joined the ranks in the food truck frenzy. The food truck was a fun way to expand without having to open up a whole new store, Angie said. “I am looking to expand, eventually. We’ll see,” Angie added. For now, Angie says she is content, “I still love it as much as I did day one…It’s been a blessing.”
Angie’s sister Alisha is still running their cupcake business, Cravings Cupcakes. Alisha also has her own storefront, just around the corner from Angie. Last year, the duo appeared on and won an episode of The Food Network’s hit show “Cupcake Wars.” •
